So how did it get to be March 10 already?

“What has taken over the world is greed. Forget war, just greed. When you’re making art, it’s got nothing to do with any of those issues. It’s got nothing to do with power. It’s got nothing to do with greed. It’s got nothing to do with triumph. It’s got nothing to do with everything which is used against us as humans. Art is the absolute anthesis and opposite of everything which is bad that’s created by humans. Art is everything, for me, that is good.

"So being an artist right now and making paintings from my head, with my hands, is so important. More important… uh, you know, I keep saying to people how important art is, and they think I’m sort of exaggerating or because I’m an artist I’m saying this. I’m not! I’m saying it for everybody who doesn’t even make art. The more art we have and the more people we have making beautiful things, the more beautiful and safe the world is gonna be. It stands to reason. So that’s one reason why I make art."

— Tracey Emin

This quote is from a recent blog post from Carla Sonheim, who you may already know is one of my favorite artists. It certainly resonated with me. Check out the Carla link herein to see her post.

I am posting here my collection of faces in the February newspapers.

January, if you missed it is here.

These are either 1) in the news and hard to miss, 2) in the obituaries with impressive accomplishments, or 3) in a piece about him or her. Some of these people were new to me as I think they are probably new to you also. And a word: sometimes one can’t ignore a newsmaker, whether or not they’re likable or impressive (to one on the left, such as I). But mostly, I tend to want to spend time on the faces of the admirable, the entertainers, or the history-makers. Wouldn’t you?

I have drawn many faces over the years; it’s one of my favorite things to do. You can see another collection (Difference Makers) here.

And in 2023, as a 100-day project, I did quick faces in a small notebook. I only got to 71. 100 days is a long time.

You can see them here, here, and here (20 at a time.)

Finally, you can see the actual drawing of a face in action here. As I remember, he’s the Japanese prime minister. I’m too lazy to check right now. Forgive me.
