Faces in the News

One project I’ve been working on is drawing faces in our daily newspaper (Seattle Times) or, in a few cases, The NY Times. Newsmakers, feature articles, and those in obituaries whose story impressed me, whether I had ever heard of them or not.

I have always enjoyed drawing faces and think I’ve gotten better over time. It’s interesting to me how one tiny feature of a face makes a big difference in whether or not that face is “captured.” In my experience, it is the mouth. After that, the shape of the head and hair.

Anyway, here’s what I posted on IG today. It is a collection of the faces in the news in January. (Already seems like a long time ago, things happen so fast these days.) A few repeats I didn’t notice until now, but what the hey, huh?

February faces coming up! Can’t believe it’s almost over. The world is doing a fast turning to me.
