Bits and Piece
“There is nothing like tasting a fig straight from the tree, sun-warmed and tender. You can eat the whole of it. The whole thing. The skin, the purple flesh, the seeds. Divine. Eat the whole fig, that’s my advice. and take it from the tree, right in that moment, when you get the chance.”
- Matt Haig, The Life Impossible

I am a lover of history. And so it is no surprise that I enjoyed a series of essays by David McCullough in the book, History Matters. Such a good writer he was.
His is an interesting list. From his book, History Matters. Mostly essays, but there was this list. Most surprisingly, I have read many on the list.

I like drawing faces. Over the years, I’ve drawn faces in three collections Faces in the News, 100 Faces, (actually about 75 faces from a 100 Day Project), and Difference Makers.
So this is just to say, when my friend Jeannie and I were in Canada recently, I picked up a few cards from the Victoria artist Susan Salvati.
I love the bold splotches of colors and fanciful characterization. You can see her work on her site, linked.
I copied one of them outright! to get a feel for the style. But then I played with three more faces, this time not looking at the originals but trying to emulate the style in my own way. Loved the freedom I had to be playful, colorful, bold and dramatic. I like the first one best; not nuts about the other two, but it’s the fun of it that matters, IMHO.

A BLAST FROM THE PAST.
A past post about crayons. My abiding love for them.
Actually, and this is proof of my love for crayons, here is yet another time I regaled them.
