A fluke to be cherished.
“Maybe that’s the truly ridiculous thing, the way we don’t even blink at the sheer improbability of our lives here on this rock spinning through space. The way we exist out of nothing, the way the whole universe exists out of nothing, and here we are, the impossible something that made existence out of the void. Impossible life. A fluke to be cherished.”
Matt Haig, The Impossible Life.
A few more Victoria memories are below. We spent a couple of hours at Munro’s and, both of us being bookaholics, could have spent more. There’s a few Empress Hotel afternoon tea photos. We couldn’t even finish the top tray of sweets shown here; the other two trays filled our tummies just fine. It’s a lovely way to spend an hour but oo boy costs too much to go more than once. I mean….it’s just tea. (Although it was quite good even for this occasional tea drinker.)
There are also a few shots inside a store called Saboyans. The interior of this place is very much worth a look if you’re ever in the vicinity. Large, beautiful florals, dancers all over the place, cute little animal vignettes. I was impressed. The last two are closeups of the grand gardens at the Empress. The flowers are giant! How do they do that?
These are the books I’m currently reading and enjoying. As usual, I have a shelfful of library books to read first before I get to the ones I’ve bought along the way. Bad habit of mine. Go to library. Come home with bagful of books.
Finally, being the cat person I am, I particularly loved this quote from Matt Haig’s book:
“I know there is a common misconception that cats are somehow less loving than dogs. This is nonsense. The love a cat can give you is sudden and warm. It is just that a cat’s love comes completely free of any moral or ethical principles. It is love for the hell of it. It is an entirely recreational love. In-the-moment love. But it is still, somehow, love.”.
