September.

It has been quite a month, beginning in Scandinavia country, then ending in a week watching my beloved summer eat away into autumn days and the end of the regular baseball season. Yes, so many of those fall days are crisp and lovely, but I do hate losing the long days of light, the warmth of sun, the color in the garden. And winter seems always twice as long as summer, does it not?

I have been reading many books lately, often, as I tend to do, at the same time. Once in awhile a book so captures my attention that I read it until it is done, and that was true for one of the books in my September pile here.

Anna Quindlan’s More Than Enough could easily go in my all-time favorite ten books, except that the ones already there need to stay there too. The dialogue is magnificent, the characters believable and mostly likable, the story - really more than one - good to the end. I loved this book.

That Librarian is the other book I’d tell you to pick up and read. If you care about censorship and love libraries as I do, this accounting of her experience as an elementary librarian who strove to make her library inclusive and faced a social media barrage headed by two men. And a trial.

I’m a mystery fan, so I always enjoy Cornwell, and I love translated mysteries, so the top two Swedish mysteries were my cuppa tea. I am also a C.J. Box fan, but am still reading that one. Overdue was a fun read, a contemporary romance (not my usual favorite genre) taking place more or less in and about a library. There I go again. The Tana French and Joyce Carol Oates books are in progress and so far, so good. There’s a lot to digest in Oates books.

I picked up the Tim Miller book from the cruise library. I’m a political junkie so I found it interesting (and was a captive audience).

While preparing this post, I ran into two more amazing things. (There is a lot out there that is, yes, truly amazing. Maybe you’ve noticed.)

1) You MUST look at this. It may take your breath away.

“There are 12 laws quietly shaping who you become.”

2) This woman is so funny. Her name is Morgan Evelyn Cook amd she has several of these on Facebook. An inner dialogue she whispers to us. Don’t just stop at one.

My original plan was to post a photo from each of the places we visited on our cruise, but this is already too long. Maybe tomorrow or before the sun sets on September.
