To appreciate the beauty of a snowflake it is necessary to stand out in the cold."

-Aristotle

Sometimes, in winter, in most areas of the northern hemisphere, it is hard to appreciate the season. Frosty, damp, gray, and slippery, it can surely test our patience (and luck.)

But here am I, extolling some virtues of winter. And I will confess, we here in the Pacific Northwest Puget Sound, are having a quite mild winter - except for a brief in-the-teens spell - and it could be considered out of touch with the realities of the winter in other parts. But, if it makes you feel better, it is raining! A LOT!

But I forge ahead anyway.

Snowy evenings, snowy days, and the first snowfall of the season.

Winter is a photographer’s delight : shadows, moonlight, sugary-white toppings on bare branches, winter skies,

and the breathtaking landscapes made by snowfalls.
