Just because it's June June June

A little late with the wallpapers this month, but I have a good excuse. (Downloads at the bottom of the post.) I‘ve been traveling to Jacksonville Florida for my nephew’s wedding, with a side road trip to Savannah where I loved discovering its historical beauty:

  • stately homes, many with interesting history. (Did you know that Savannah is the oldest city in Georgia?)

  • over a dozen “squares” in the downtown area, and fun little places tucked in corners. A very walkable city, but a free shuttle when you get pooped.

  • Amazing trees. Live oaks that drip their leaves.

  • The Telfair and Jepson Museums, where readers of Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil will recognize “Bird Girl.”

I lunched in the Wildflower Cafe at the Jepson. I believe I had the best panzanella bread salad I’ve ever had. Quite yummy.

  • There are many benches in Savannah, in the squares and parks and streets. And hammocks. For to rest your weary feet.

  • And one of the coolest bookstores ever. With cats.

E. Shaver Bookstore. Like the Tattered Cover in Denver, it has a maze of rooms, comfy chairs, incredible inventory of books you couldn’t imagine. Fortunately, I only discovered it in my last hours in Savannah or I might have spent much much more on a trip that had already broken the bank.

And I had little meals at two different places: Henny Penny and Foxy Loxy. Really. Not on purpose.

The only bad thing about the timing, however, is that I missed the annual debut of the fullness of our peonies. Luckily, they haven’t completely left us yet. Their days with us are so beautiful but so short.
