It's five o'clock somewhere.

My plan for today was to post a new wallpaper for your desktop or phone and touch base with you all again. Seems like August went by without much to say except it’s been such a wonderful summer here I needed to be outside gardening or walking or reading or just keeping up with life.

But this morning I heard the news that Jimmy Buffet died. Wow, that stung. I never got to see him live (would have loved that), of course had never met him or seen him up close, but I just hated that news. I have the Jimmy Buffet Sirius channel in my car and I gotta tell you - when I want to feel happy, carefree, and sing a good song out loud (in harmony!) to myself in the car, that’s where I go. His songs make me remember vacations in Mexico with my pals, warm days in the clear as glass Hawaiian waters, summer days with nothin’ to do. And frosty Margaritas. Good times and fun. Nothing but good vibes. I have never lived a life of wasting away in Margaritaville, and wouldn’t want to, I suppose, but I sure have said more than once,

It’s five o’clock somewhere!

So sorry to see Jimmy go.

I found a wonderful 60 Minutes (and 60 minutes long, heads up) video about Jimmy, around 2007 you might enjoy if you loved his music, too. He certainly seems to have had a natural charm and humility about him and he loved a good time, even though his songs belied his actual life of workaholic. The second video is a more recent documentary (where, by the way, he talks about becoming a Cubs fan when working as an opening act in the area in the very long draught years of the Cubbies - a surprise that just further endears me to the man.)

I’ll be back tomorrow with the wallpaper because I know you’ve all been chomping at the bit, waiting at the dock, sitting on pins and needles.

Go Cubs.
