Time spent.

Hello again. As I promised (or threatened!), I’m back for a quick daily series of non-related things of interest - (possibly only to me…but I hope not!)

The garden is in almost-full-bloom right now, and even a little overrun. I suppose one day soon I will need to cut it back some, but while things are ready to bloom or in bloom, I just can’t do it.

The lilies are especially happy right now. They have been so easy to grow and come back year after year, brighter than the year before. I planted a new bulb in late April, and already it is growing taller and looking healthy.

We have lilies in lots of bright colors.

So today I painted one, trying to keep it similar to the sunflower I posted yesterday to end up with a series. The sunflower was an actual watercolor; this one is a digital watercolor.

And here’s the most exciting event of the day to tell you! I grew this artichoke! It’s been in the ground over three years and finally bloomed this gem this year! I hear next year we will actually get several; I sure hope so. It’s a lot of plant and a lot of time for just one ‘choke, but I gotta tell you, it looked and tasted magnificent.

This was at the beginning of the season. The leaves lived through the winter and grew twice this size since early April. Not sure what I expected, but it was sure a joy to see the beginnings of the fruit and watch it grow to a perfect shape and size.
