Six Things for Saturday

…because I missed Five Things for Friday.

Now that the calendars have been mailed via our wonderful Post Office (…that’s not a sarcastic comment. I truly do think the post office is one of our treasures…), I’m going back to all the notes I’ve been collecting: amazing art, human endeavors, chuckles, and things that tickled my fancy that I’m hoping do the same for you. This particular set was from Facebook and Twitter. Where possible, I’ve located another link for you. Otherwise, I hope the tweet and FB links work for you regardless of your FB or Twitter presence. IF not, c’est la vie!

This art teacher shared a Gustav Klimt lesson she did. You’ll remember that Klimt was one of the artists featured in the Whose House? 2020 calendar series. These 8th grade artists worked their magic on scratchboard, but I think they really captured the patterns, muted colors, and “gold” of Klimt.

Under the heading of giggles and smiles, here’s, “We’re not doing this, Bob.”

And if you need to feel good, watch this video: “I recorded my son’s pick up almost every day and this is his reaction every single time. For his 5th birthday, I took my favorites and made a …compilation, from infancy to just last week.

Note: Gee oh golly, I did so want you to see this, Twitter user or not. I screen recorded it and had to put it at YouTube in order to be viewed. It is listed as private and just for you readers, as I have not gotten permission from Teese, the mom. I’ll try to do so.

Just. Beautiful.

And since I first found these seven gems on Twitter or FB, although many are accessible elsewhere, I have a little rant and a little rave….

I think often about cancelling Facebook. It distresses me that a certain, scarily-large percentage of people get their “facts” and information solely from FB. I think I believe (still working on it) that social media, especially FB, has changed the course of our democracy in what is not a good way.

AND YET, there is Flav City, where the 2-year-old Rose delights me when she helps her dad - and on her own - makes food dishes with utter joy.

Rose.

AND, following the life of musical genius 9-year-old Claire Crosby and her talented musical family makes me believe in the whole concept of genius. She has an incredible repertroire of songs she knows all the lyrics to (and probably in the key that the song was recorded in). Her special talent is amazing but she’s pretty much a normal little girl, if having that much talent can be anywhere near normal. And all the bits and pieces, some of which I’ve shared here. Claire demonstrates perfect pitch here. And, below, is the video that hooked me in the first place. Oh, and enjoy this!…”Shallow'“, at seven, with her dad. Watch the range of her voice and pitch, and perfect harmony.

AND, finally, the reason I joined in the first place…I love having the photos shared by my family and friends that delight me and the work by other artists that inspire me.

I have been playing with my acrylic markers, inspired by a Skillshare artist named Polina Oshu. I call it my next 30-day project, but it’s already taken me 10 days to do 5, so you know how THAT goes.

It was originally The Midnight Train to Houston.

You gotta love the guys.

Indulge me here: I missed the anniversary of this great day in history(!), so busy with calendar things, but and especially since, this was such a disappointing (i.e., crappy) year for a Cubs fan, it’s always a pleasure to watch. You have my permission to skip it if you don’t want to watch this 30 seconds of pleasure - fan or not - but just don’t tell me.

And if you really want to understand where this Cubs fan is coming from, here’s a video made the night of the miracle in November, 2016. Might be another 100 before we see it again. “Now our lives are complete.”

Not too many calendars left. Have you ordered yours?
